Joomla - SMF Bridge

New update 13. December 2006 This component is a bridge between two powerful content-management systems - Joomla CMS and SMF forum. Potentialities: More particularly that component gives opportunity to perform two-way users synchronization of the systems listed above: 1) Joomla administrator can transfer existing users from SMF to Joomla 2) SMF new users will be added automatically to Joomla after Joomla authorization using SMF username/password. 3) Joomla existing/new users are added automatically to SMF after Joomla authorization. Auto login works only in the case of : 1) http://www.yoursite.com/forum 2) http://www.yoursite.com/joomla/forum User synchronization works in case SMF and Joomla are located on one FTP. Configuration: Having installed that component and forum you should go to configuration adjustment (Components/SMF Bridge/SMF Bridge Config) where you can: 1) Configure your forum details - Enter path to your SMF forum ((path should begin with “/”, e.g. “/forum” or ”/smf”). 2) Configure Automatic User registration. Here’re 2 radio buttons for corresponding registration type (Joomla-SMF and SMF-Joomla) with Yes/No options: - 2.1. If “Joomla users to SMF forum” automatic registration is enabled then new Joomla users will be registered on forum automatically after passing first Joomla authorization. - 2.2. If “SMF forum users to Joomla” automatic registration is enabled then SMF users who have authorized in Joomla with the same login information as on SMF forum will be registered on Joomla automatically. Having entered correct information (when message «Path saved successfully!» appears). Mambot which is installed together with the component will automatically “login” users to Joomla and forum if they have equal Username, Password, E-mail. BUT synchronization (single login, auto-registration) can not be done in case Joomla and forum users have equal Username and E-mail. Synchronization: Users synchronization represents 2 modes: 1) Joomla users synchronization with SMF forum. 2) SMF forum users synchronization with Joomla. Considering certain features of user information storage: 1. Joomla users synchronization with SMF forum allows to add all missing Joomla users to forum and make them active at once. 2. SMF forum users synchronization with Joomla adds forum users to Joomla and marks them blocked. These blocked users are automatically authorized (i.e. are made active) ONLY after they login to Joomla and their login information is successfully compared with corresponding forum information by the system. Attention! It’s not recommended to unblock these blocked users using User manager. Guidelines: 1. 1. As a recommendation if “No socket error” (or similar error) appears then you should ask your ISP to enable Socket functions for your host. 2. 2. Autologin doesn’t work with cookies turned OFF.
