The redirect component allows you to easily redirect your old site urls to the new Joomla urls. It supports multiple types of redirects.

The process is as simple as entering your old url, selecting a type of redirect and entering the new url. The component will redirect all old hits to the new page in stead of leading visitors and search engines to a 404 not found page. The only requirement at this point is, that the server variable $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI] is available and that the server is running mod_rewrite (or that you can use the Joomla index.php file as 404 document). On IIS it, with some tweaking it should work as well.
